After Nagpur, India also won easily in the Delhi Test. Rohit Sharma edged closer to World Test Championship final after beating Australia. And on such a happy day, the smile on Virat Kohli’s face became wider. Because, he left behind Sachin Tendulkar by setting a personal record.
Kohli’s collection of 64 (44 and 20) in two innings in the recently concluded Test. He was just 52 runs away from the new milestone before entering this Test. Any milestones? 25 thousand and more runs in international cricket. Kohli reached that milestone in the second Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He set this precedent as the sixth star of the cricket world. Master Blaster topped the unique record at his home ground Delhi.
The Delhi Test was Kohli’s 491st international match and 549th innings. And with that he crossed the 25,000 mark. Kohli surpassed Sachin by touching this milestone as the fastest batsman. The little master played 577 innings to score 25 thousand runs. Sachin was the only Indian in the 25,000-run club. Now Kohli’s name is shining next to him.
Sachin is still the highest run scorer in international cricket. He collected 34 thousand 357 runs in 664 matches. He is followed by Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara (28,016 runs in 594 matches), Australia’s Ricky Ponting (27,483 in 560 matches) and Sri Lanka’s Mahela Jayawardene (652 matches 25,957).
